Anioma State creation gains momentum as PLAN Nigeria rallies support for Ned Nwoko’s bill

The call for the creation of Anioma State is gaining traction across the country, with the Progressive Leaders Association of Nigeria (PLAN Nigeria) urging President Bola Tinubu and members of the National Assembly to embrace consensus-building towards the realization of the proposed new state, sponsored by Senator Ned Nwoko.
In a passionate statement issued by PLAN Nigeria’s Director General, Comrade Bello Osaretin Elmikado, the group described the creation of Anioma State as a critical step towards national development, good governance, and regional balance. According to the association, Anioma State meets all the necessary requirements in terms of population, economic sustainability, landmass, cultural heritage, and political viability.
“The attraction for Anioma State creation is gathering momentum,” Comrade Bello said. “Looking at its strategic location, vibrant social network, workforce, commerce, and cultural diplomacy, it is clear that this dream is not only achievable but necessary.”
PLAN Nigeria argued that if some states were created in the past for political convenience, then the case for Anioma State—which would address longstanding regional imbalances—should be a national priority.
“In the spirit of fairness, equity, and prosperity, the creation of Anioma State should become a reality,” the group stated. “It reflects the genuine concerns of Ndi Igbo across the globe who have long felt marginalized in terms of federal appointments and infrastructure distribution.”
The group emphasized that regardless of whether Anioma State falls under the South-East or South-South geopolitical zone, its creation would be a win-win for the Igbo nation and Nigeria at large. They called for national unity and collective effort to actualize the proposal without politicizing or dramatizing the process.
“This is a clarion call to all Nigerians, regardless of class, status, or political leaning, to support this noble agenda. Let’s get the job done,” Comrade Bello declared.
The statement also commended Senator Ned Nwoko for his steadfast commitment and bold legislative move to sponsor the Anioma State creation bill. PLAN Nigeria described the senator as a visionary leader whose determination is deserving of national recognition.
