The Director General, City Boy Movement, Oluwatosin Francis Shoga, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not become the President of Nigeria just to manage the country, but to transform the country into a sustainable one .

Shoga made the declaration at the Imo state youth stakeholders’ security summit, held in Owerri on Friday,

He added that the Renewed Hope administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not back down in his efforts to secure Nigeria.

“No amount of threat or personal interest will jeopardize the safety of Nigeria, including its human and material resources,” he said.

Speaking on the theme of the stakeholdes’ summit, the DG, noted that while the security of Nigeria is not negotiable, he stressed that the safety of Imo State and Nigeria is paramount, “as it is one of the pillars upon which President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda is hinged.”

He, however, explained that an effective way to address insecurity in Nigeria is through meaningful and sustainable youth empowerment not just any kind of empowerment.

He said: “When young people have skills, access to finance and requisites knowledge to operate a business of their own. There will be opportunities. They become builders, not destroyers. More importantly, they won’t be lured to social vices of any kind.

“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, government alone can not win this battle. We need our traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, market associations, and women organizations to raise peace awareness.

“In this battle against insecurity, retreat is not an option. The surrender is not on the table. The path to peace may be challenging, but with unity of purpose, with determination in our hearts, and with faith in the Renewed Hope agenda, we shall overcome,” affirmed Shoga.

The Imo State Commissioner for Youth and Talent Hunt, Mandella Ukaegbu, said the stakeholders summit on security is an initiative of the state government led by Senator Hope Uzodinma.

The Commissioner noted that the governor has put in place several initiatives to ensure the youth in Imo state participate in issues that have to do with the state, especially in the area of security.

“His Excellency the governor of Imo state has encouraged youth in the state to show interest in issues of the state. He decided to do this because he has introduced lots of empowerment programmes, and we have thought it right that this is the best time to call out the youth to join us in securing the state.”

He further said the Imo State governor through his initiatives has taught the youth to be ready to build and not destroy, and the youth are ready to build and not to destroy.

“I can assure you that the message is clear. The youth have got it that it is better to build the state and the nation at large rather than destroying it.”

Representatives of various security agencies earlier in their remarks urged youth to report any suspicious activities or persons in their communities to the agencies.

This is as they said that criminals are always ahead of the government, but issues that concern security shouldn’t be seen as a joke.

They also advised the Imo state youth to desist from vices, such as cultism and illicit drug abuse, noting that it is the surest way to create unrest in any society.

Highlight of the event includes a presentation of awards to deserving peace ambassadors of the state.

The awardees include the Imo State Director of City Boy Movement, Chief Goodluck Nwaneri, Prince Kennedy Nwamkpa, the winner of 2010 World Body Building Championship & Power Lifting Champion, and Nollywood veteran actor, Harry B Anyanwu for their exceptional contribution in peace keeping in the state.
