The Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) held its much-anticipated International Day celebration on Saturday, at the College front lawn in Abuja.

The colorful event showcased rich cultural displays from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones and six allied African countries, highlighting the College’s commitment to fostering multinational bonds and cross-cultural military cooperation.

The Special Guest of Honor, Major General Jamal Abdulsalam, Chief of Special Services and Programmes (Army), commended the College for organizing a vibrant and intellectually enriching event.

“He described the celebration as not merely a cultural festivity but a clear demonstration of strategic communication, cooperation, and understanding across national and institutional boundaries.

“He charged the participants of Course 9/2025 to carry forward the values of openness, collaboration, and cultural appreciation in their careers as future military leaders and policymakers.

“The Commandant AWCN, Major General Umar Muhammed Alkali, emphasized that International Day is a core component of the Higher Military Strategy and Management Course, designed to promote cross-cultural dialogue, enhance strategic awareness, and strengthen military ties among African nations.

This year’s International Day celebrates our unity in diversity,” he noted. “It offers our allied officers the opportunity to showcase their nations’ histories, traditions, and military heritage while engaging with Nigeria’s cultural richness.”*

The event featured musical performances, cultural exhibitions, traditional cuisine, and displays of national artifacts, reflecting a spirit of brotherhood and shared commitment to peace and security. Highlights included the presentation of souvenirs, cutting of the International Friendship Cake, and a group photograph session.
