Ibrahim Chatta breaks silence over AMVCA organisers snub rumours

Veteran Nollywood actor Ibrahim Chatta has finally addressed lingering rumours about his exclusion from the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), clarifying that he was never snubbed—he simply chose not to participate.

In a recent appearance on the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast hosted by skit maker IsBae U, Chatta set the record straight, revealing that his name was absent from the AMVCA nomination list because he didn’t submit any of his works for consideration.

“I’m not interested in the AMVCA,” Chatta stated bluntly. “Why should I be praying for something I’m not interested in? When I’m ready to go for the AMVCA, I will make a film and submit it. That’s how to know if I’m worthy of the award.”

The respected Yoruba-language film star’s remarks come after his fans criticized AMVCA organizers for allegedly ignoring his talent. Chatta distanced himself from the frenzy, making it clear that he’s not chasing validation.

He also suggested that his private nature might contribute to his perceived absence from the spotlight. “I ask myself why I’ve not been invited. I’m not a social person. Maybe they think if they give me the award, I won’t show up,” he said.

Despite being overlooked by mainstream award shows like the AMVCA, Chatta says his cabinet is far from empty. He proudly listed some of the honours he’s received over the years, including the Nelson Mandela Award, the Pink Award from Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, and accolades from fellow actor Odunlade Adekola.

With this revelation, Chatta silences speculation and reminds fans that while awards are welcome, his craft remains the most important recognition he seeks.
