After weeks of strategic deliberations, the Nigeria National Coalition Group (NNCG) has formally approached the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register a new political party under the name All Democratic Alliance (ADA).

In a letter dated June 19, 2025, and acknowledged by INEC on June 20, the group expressed its intent to transform its association into a full-fledged political party. According to Vanguard newspaper, “the application was signed by Chief Akin A. Rickets, the association’s Protem National Chairman, and was sighted by Vanguard in Abuja on Friday.”

The letter, titled “Application for Registration as a Political Party,” read in part:

“We respectfully write to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, requesting the registration of our association, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), as a political party. This is sequel to the decision taken by the Nigerian National Coalition Group to sponsor our association for full registration.”

According to the letter, the party’s acronym will be ADA, with “Justice for All” as its official slogan.

In line with the requirements of Nigeria’s Electoral Act, the group attached all necessary documentation to the application, including:

A logo that symbolizes the party’s identity, complete with details on its colors and the image of maize (corn) as a central element,

The party’s constitution, outlining its legal framework, internal structures, and guiding principles,

A comprehensive manifesto reflecting its ideology and democratic commitments,

Its party flag, minutes of key meetings, and details of the national secretariat.

The application makes direct reference to compliance with Section 40 and 222 of the 1999 Constitution, Section 75 of the Electoral Act (2022), and global best practices in party formation and political organization

“While we eagerly await further action from the Commission on the next step forward towards attaining our desired goal, please accept the consideration of our highest respect,” Chief Rickets concluded in the letter.

The All Democratic Alliance is emerging from a bloc of powerful political figures and movements who have recently shown discontent with the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Prominent figures associated with the coalition include:

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar,

Ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi,

Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and

Dr. Umar Ardo, convener of the League of Northern Democrats,

among several other influential politicians.

With INEC now in receipt of the formal application, the stage is set for what could become a significant new force in Nigeria’s evolving political space.
