Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has reaffirmed his commitment to the club, dismissing recent transfer rumours as “99% fake news” and insisting his future remains at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City first-choice goalkeeper Ederson has hit out at rumours linking him with a possible exit from the club, saying his future is at the Etihad Stadium. The 31-year-old Brazil international is facing the final year of his contract after joining in 2017 from Benfica for £35m.

Speaking recently, Ederson said: “My future is here. Some friends send me a lot of news but 99% is fake news. I understand you guys. You need the news to put a like on social media, or rant for the news. I understand but there’s a lot of fake news around my name”.

The goalkeeper, who is currently training with the team at the Club World Cup in the United States, has been a key part of City’s recent successes, including six Premier League titles, a Champions League and two FA Cups.

Last summer, Ederson was linked with a possible move to Saudi Arabia, although he admitted that although an offer was made, his priority has always been the English club.

“My head is here. It stays with the city. It gives me everything to go back to the Premier League again and try to win the Champions League as well. My mind is staying in the club,” said Ederson.

Meanwhile, some media reports have linked Porto and goalkeeper Diogo Costa with Manchester City, citing a £64million termination clause.

Coach Pep Guardiola, asked about Ederson’s future, said: “I am so pleased what I am seeing in the training sessions and he is with us. He has had a spectacular decade with us and his contribution has been massive in many aspects.”
