JAMB raises alarm over UTME mop-up low turnout

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has raised concerns over the low number of candidates who have printed their exam notification slips.

The mop-up exam, which is scheduled to hold today, Saturday, June 28, is meant for candidates who missed the main UTME for valid reasons. But JAMB says only a small fraction of those eligible have taken steps to prepare.

“As at yesterday (Friday), only 12,442 out of the 98,232 scheduled candidates have printed their slips, reflecting a mere 12.6% participation rate,” the Board said in a statement released through its spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin.

JAMB described the situation as worrisome and urged affected candidates to act quickly.

“We strongly encourage all candidates, particularly those who missed the main examination, to print their notification slips promptly. This is a rare opportunity for them to participate in this year’s examination,” the statement read.

The Board added that it is closely monitoring the situation and assessing how many candidates are likely to show up for the mop-up exercise.

JAMB’s reminder comes as many candidates who were rescheduled due to technical glitches, biometric failures, or other reasons during the initial UTME window.
