Barely two days after their much-publicized reconciliation meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, were seen together in public at a burial ceremony in Port Harcourt.

The two leaders attended the funeral of Wike’s uncle, held on Saturday in his hometown of Rumuepirikom, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

In a video shared by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, the minister and the governor were seen walking side by side into the venue. In a further display of renewed ties, both men entered the same vehicle believed to be Wike’s shortly after their arrival.

The public appearance is the latest sign that the political rift between the former allies may have truly been put to rest, following months of bitter power tussles that threatened to destabilize governance in the state.

Recalled that few days ago, we reported that Wike, Fubara and other house of the state assembly, met President Tinubu, where they had a reconciliation meeting, with many watching closely to see how far the peace deal brokered by the President will hold.

While neither of the two men made any formal comment at the burial, their joint appearance is being interpreted as a strong show of unity and a signal that the political temperature in Rivers may finally be cooling.
