Kenneth Okonkwo dumps Abure-led LP

Popular Nollywood actor turned politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has made the decision to suspend his affiliation with the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee of the Labour Party (LP).
The Nollywood actor cited his commitment to a new Nigeria as his primary concern, expressing a preference to stand by principles rather than compromise integrity for victory.
Okonkwo, who previously served as the spokesperson for the Labour Party Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 election, took to his X account on Tuesday to voice his stance.
He criticised the current leadership under Julius Abure, likening it to the incompetence and corruption he observed in the All Progressives Congress (APC), from which he had previously departed.
Okonkwo’s post expressed a strong condemnation of the national convention organised by Abure, labeling it as rife with criminality and corruption.
The post reads: “I am suspending my relationship in all ramifications with the purported Abure-led National Working Committee of Labour Party.
“For me, it’s either a new Nigeria or nothing. I prefer to lose doing the right thing than winning doing the wrong thing.
“Nothing can wash out the criminality, corruption, and incompetence with which the purported National Convention was purportedly organised by Abure.
“I did not leave the comfort of a ruling party APC because I believe that they are incompetent and dishonest only to come and join another incompetent and corrupt association, which is the current Abure-led National Working Committee of Labour Party.”
It is worth noting that earlier today, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, may have tacitly endorsed the National Working Committee of the Labour Party, led by Julius Abure, by appearing at the party’s national secretariat while the National Chairman was addressing party members who had come in solidarity.
