Amorim shares true feelings on Man Utd season

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim sat down for an interview with ‘Sky Sports Premier League’ to talk about Manchester United’s disappointing campaign, with the Red Devils languishing 17th in the league after suffering their 17th defeat this term.

Manchester United reached the Europa League final last week, but it was not enough to stir a change in their dismal Premier League campaign, as they remained 17th on the standings after a humbling defeat to West Ham at the weekend.

The undisputed kings of English football suffered a 17th defeat in 36 league games so far this season, with nine of those reverses taking place in front of their fans at Old Trafford.

United’s latest lacklustre display angered Ruben Amorim, who gave another one of his several public dress-downs after winning just six of his 26 games in charge since taking over from Erik ten Hag in November.

“It’s hard to find the words, I’m really embarrassed. In 26 games, only six wins, something is wrong. Sometimes it’s because of the way we play football, but other times it’s no,” the Portuguese told ‘Sky Sports Premier League’.

“Tactically and technically, the way we face competitions, the way we suffer, the way we get mad because we are losing, the way we protect the goal, these things we need to improve on,” continued.

Amorim said he feared Manchester United were losing their ‘massive club feeling’ after the 2-0 loss to Graham Potter’s Hammers, and reiterated his words by highlighting the off-pitch issues at the club.

“Sometimes it’s not just on the pitch, but also outside. The feeling of fighting until the end, facing competitions and saying it’s not okay to lose or draw, that’s what I’m talking about,” he added

“It doesn’t matter if we can change our position in the league or not, that feeling is nothing about confidence, but about the belief and the understanding that we are Manchester United, we don’t want to be the worst in the league.”

While deeming Man United’s position this season ‘unacceptable’, the former Sporting Lisbon boss admitted that his long-term vision for the club helps him to maintain calm and a positive attitude amid all the chaos.

“Our position is unacceptable. For me, that’s not a lack of confidence, but it’s something more profound. I talk with the board and the fans at all times. I have a clear feeling about what this team needs to be much better, and that helps me to maintain a calm level.”
