APC tells El-Rufai: Quit sulking, get a grip, salvage some respectability

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has fired back at Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, former Governor of Kaduna State, after his exit from the party.
In a statement released today, the APC accused El-Rufai of being driven by raw self-interest rather than a genuine concern for the country.
The APC alleged that El-Rufai’s claim that the party had deviated from its founding values was just a smokescreen to justify his personal grievance.
They pointed out that El-Rufai’s real reason for leaving was his disappointment at not being appointed as a minister by President Bola Tinubu.
The party also criticized El-Rufai’s decision to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP), questioning how the SDP could be an ideological safe haven for him.
They described El-Rufai’s call for opposition members to join him under the SDP banner as an invitation to drink from a “chalice poisoned by selfishness, vengefulness, and delusion of grandeur”.
In contrast, the APC highlighted President Tinubu’s achievements, including the removal of fuel subsidies, unification of exchange rates, and attraction of foreign direct investment.
They noted that Nigeria’s economy was growing, with a GDP growth rate of 3.8% in Q4 2024, and that the country’s balance of payment had improved significantly.
The APC concluded by advising El-Rufai to “quit sulking, get a grip, and salvage some respectability”.
