Breaking: NNPCL spokesperson resigns

Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has officially stepped down from his role, bringing an end to his nearly two-year tenure as the spokesperson of Nigeria’s national oil company.
Soneye announced his resignation in a statement on Saturday, noting that the decision was driven by his desire to spend more time with his family and attend to personal responsibilities that now require his close attention.
“It has been a profound honour to serve both the company and our country,” Soneye stated in a farewell message addressed to his colleagues. “This decision will allow me to devote more time to my family and attend to personal responsibilities that now require my closer presence.”
Appointed in August 2021, Soneye played a key role in shaping NNPCL’s public image, especially during a transformative era for the company following its transition into a limited liability entity under the Petroleum Industry Act.
In his farewell note, Soneye expressed gratitude to colleagues and stakeholders for their support throughout his time in office. He praised their professionalism and dedication in helping to “build a vibrant and effective communications presence for our national energy company.”
While stepping away from the official role, Soneye pledged to remain a “steadfast supporter and ambassador of NNPC Ltd,” urging media professionals and stakeholders to continue providing “robust, balanced, and constructive reportage in support of the company’s noble mission and strategic role in Nigeria’s energy future.”
His departure marks the end of a notable chapter in NNPCL’s corporate communications, though the company has yet to announce a successor.
