Dalori takes over as APC acting National Chairman

After the resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally appointed Hon. (Dr.) Ali Bukar Dalori as its Acting National Chairman.

Dalori, who until now served as the Deputy National Chairman (North) and a longstanding member of the National Working Committee (NWC), assumed leadership during a special NWC meeting held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Monday.

His appointment was made in accordance with the APC constitution and the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In his maiden speech as Acting Chairman, Dalori struck a tone of humility, unity, and reform, acknowledging the contributions of his predecessor and promising to steer the party with transparency and a deep sense of purpose.

“My appointment to this role is not a personal victory. It is a responsibility I embrace with full awareness of the challenges ahead and the expectations of millions of our members and supporters across the nation,” Dalori said.

He praised Ganduje’s leadership, describing his tenure since August 2023 as one marked by experience, commitment, and clear direction. Dalori extended the party’s collective wishes to Ganduje for a full recovery and well-being, following indications that health concerns contributed to his resignation.

The process of Dalori’s assumption was confirmed by Senator Suraj Ajibola, the National Secretary of the party. Presenting Ganduje’s resignation to the NWC, Ajibola noted that the transition complied with Article 14 of the APC Constitution, which empowers the deputy chairman to act in the absence of the chairman.

“On behalf of the NWC, I present to you Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori as the Acting National Chairman pending when the National Executive Committee (NEC) fills the vacancy,” Ajibola stated.

A motion to accept Ganduje’s resignation was moved and seconded during the meeting, followed by the official ratification of Dalori’s appointment in acting capacity.

Dalori urged members of the NWC and party stakeholders to work together to consolidate internal cohesion, strengthen grassroots structures, and avoid divisive rhetoric during this transitional period.

“This is a period for consolidation not conflict. For maturity not division. And for vision not personal ambition,” he said.

He further emphasized the party’s commitment to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as a “living roadmap” for tackling the country’s economic, security, and unity challenges.

“We will stand by the President in full loyalty and partnership. The APC remains the political vehicle to drive this transformation,” he affirmed.

Dalori promised to unveil a comprehensive roadmap in the coming days to guide the NWC’s activities during the interim, with particular focus on party discipline, reconciliation, communication, member mobilisation, and stakeholder engagement.
