Delta: Nursing student faces disciplinary action over viral video during First Lady’s visit

A student of Delta State College of Nursing Sciences, Agbor, Nurse Osato Edobor, has been issued a query by the school authorities for allegedly posting an unauthorized video on TikTok during the official visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The incident, which occurred on March 25, 2025, took place at the Dome Event Center, Asaba, where the First Lady was attending the Renewed Hope Initiative Health Programme and distributing 10,000 professional kits (including scrubs and crocs) to midwives in Nigeria’s South-South geopolitical zone.
According to a letter signed by the Provost of the institution, Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne (Mrs.), the student was found to have engaged in a “malicious act” by recording herself singing and posting an unofficial response during the arrival of the First Lady. The school classified this as a punishable offense under the institution’s Student Handbook, specifically under standardized disciplinary action No. 8 on Page 21.
The college has directed Nurse Osato Edobor to submit a written explanation in triplicate within 24 hours, justifying why disciplinary action should not be taken against her for the act.
The query letter, dated March 27, 2025, has since gone viral, sparking mixed reactions online. While some social media users believe the student was simply expressing herself, others argue that public institutions have the right to enforce disciplinary measures to maintain order and professionalism.
As of now, neither the student nor the school has made an official public statement regarding the matter.
