Former police spokesman seeks N25 million for kidney transplant

ACP Chike Oti, a former Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Lagos State, has made a heartfelt plea to Nigerians for financial assistance after being diagnosed with end-stage renal disease.
The senior police officer, who currently serves as the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) at the Railway Police Command in Ebute Metta, Lagos, revealed that he requires N25 million for a life-saving kidney transplant.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Oti shared the details of his condition, explaining that he is in the fifth stage of renal failure—a critical stage of kidney disease. The diagnosis was made at Lagoon Hospital in Ikoyi, Lagos, where he has been undergoing treatment.
“My name is ACP Chike Godwin Oti, recently transferred as ACP DFA, Railway Police Command, Ebute Metta, Lagos. I wish to inform you that I was recently diagnosed with fifth stage renal failure, also known as end-stage renal disease, occasioned by unmitigated high blood pressure at Lagoon Hospital, Bourdillon Street, Ikoyi, Lagos,” Oti said in his statement.
He went on to explain that his current condition requires him to undergo hemodialysis twice a week to stay alive, a costly procedure that is merely a temporary solution until he can afford a kidney transplant. Oti disclosed that he has already spent approximately N3.5 million during his one-week stay at the hospital, but the ongoing cost of treatment has become overwhelming.
“The cost of keeping alive is way beyond my means right now,” he added. “I, therefore, seek your help, dear brothers and sisters, to surmount this terrible illness.”
