Full list: NiMet warns of heavy rainfall, flash floods in 6-state

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a fresh weather alert, warning residents of six states to brace for heavy rainfall and possible flash floods over the next three days, beginning Wednesday, April 9 to Friday, April 11, 2025.
In a bulletin released on Tuesday, NiMet listed Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Edo, Delta, and Ogun as the states expected to be most affected by moderate to heavy downpours within the forecast period.
The agency also predicted light to moderate rainfall in parts of Lagos, Ondo, Ekiti, Abia, Delta, and Imo, while some areas across the country may only experience light showers or remain completely dry.
NiMet further cautioned against flash flooding, particularly in regions expecting heavy rainfall. The agency said the rain could be accompanied by strong winds, which may pose risks to both lives and property, including buildings, trees, and electrical infrastructure.
Citizens were strongly advised to avoid driving through floodwaters, noting that such waters could be deeper or stronger than they appear. NiMet also highlighted the risk of slippery roads and reduced visibility, which could lead to traffic disruptions.
The general public was urged to take safety precautions, including turning off electrical appliances ahead of the rain and securing loose outdoor items to prevent damage.
Residents of the affected areas are encouraged to remain alert and stay updated through official weather channels to reduce the risks associated with severe weather conditions.
