Hope rekindled as reports claim ‘sleeping prince’ wakes from 20-year coma

Social media has been set abuzz with reports suggesting that Saudi royal, Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal, may have regained consciousness nearly 20 years after slipping into a coma.

Prince Al-Waleed, son of billionaire Prince Khaled bin Talal, suffered a traumatic brain injury following a devastating car crash in 2005 while studying at a military college in the United Kingdom. Since the accident, the young royal has remained in a coma, relying on life support at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh.

For almost two decades, Prince Al-Waleed was fed through a tube and showed minimal signs of responsiveness. In 2015, medical professionals reportedly advised the family to consider ending life support, but his father refused, holding firmly to his faith. “If God wanted him to die in the accident, he would have already been buried,” Prince Khaled reportedly said at the time.

In 2019, there was a glimmer of hope when the prince was seen slightly moving his fingers and turning his head, sparking renewed public interest and prayers for his recovery. However, no major developments were reported in the years that followed—until now.

Unverified reports circulating online now claim that the prince has woken up after nearly two decades in a coma. However, the Saudi royal family or close relatives are yet to release any official statement confirming the development.

The news, though unconfirmed, has stirred emotional reactions across the Arab world, with many holding out hope that the reports turn out to be true.
