How repercussions could outweigh actions, be wary! by Ebunoluwa Ibibo

As a young adult, aside from the fact that our parents were strict and we were raised differently, there was a particular incident that taught me to be wary of immortality.

We were both young and members of the choir in our local church. She had an aura of beauty and warmth. She was loved by all. Before our choir master would consider anyone to lead a solo, she was the most preferred.

She was not particularly my friend but I admired her greatly. Even parents would point at her as a reference point to their children.

Until she started drifting. She made friends with a group of uncouth girls and stopped being her amiable self. Then, we heard that she was pregnant. She dropped out from school, her dad disowned her and her mom checked into a mental home, even before she gave birth.

Repercussions outweigh the action done, she never wanted to bring sorrow to her parents.

Repercussions of actions come in the ripple effect. Negative actions beget negative repercussions, same for positive thoughts and actions.

Before you act, please consider. Looking before leaping hasn’t endangered anyone. In fact, not doing so has been responsible for a lot of menace and regrets.

The prevalent get rich soon syndrome is worrisome. The youths want to acquire and attain. Yet, not too many want to go through the crucibles. They desire and wouldn’t want to learn the ropes.

As good as shortcuts are, shortcuts if not properly followed, lead to longer routes.

I recall when I started using computers. Someone taught me shortcuts, the likes of copy and paste. It didn’t take long for me to learn in a hard way. It takes dexterity to use shortcuts. I lost precious work and time, as the shortcut put me in a huge mess, more than once. It left me devastated and I vowed not to use it again. I’ll rather follow through and be sure my work was intact.

The same applies for someone who wants to use an iPhone but cannot maintain it.

The road you are is misleading. Retrace your steps, before you are done for.

Repercussions for a diligent student would be rewarding. Academic excellence is one of the significant reasons parents joy over children.

A child that is intentional about studying would reap the dividends. Success, grants or scholarships are the few repercussions of studiousness. Stop wishing you’re on top of your class. Start acting like it.

No one makes companionship with books and becomes an alien to knowledge. If you read enough, you’ll know enough and if you read a little, you’ll also become a mediocre.

Repercussions are quite impactful. Repercussions affect the physical emotional and social well-being and relationships alike.

When you make the right decision on your diet for instance, it is a long term investment. It would affect your overall health and well-being. A tobacco smoker knows he’s liable to die young.

An alcoholic is aware of the damaging effects of alcohol.

An adulterer is conscious of contracting sexually transmitted diseases.

So, when we make decisions, let us also be aware of the repercussions.

Repercussions, could be immediate or futuristic. A farmer who cultivates the farm, sows the seeds and weed around it, does it with the future in view. Cashcrops would take longer time to harvest, while food crops may not take as long.

The repercussion for an indolent farmer is poor harvest or penury. The repercussion for a diligent farmer is a bountiful harvest.

Be aware that, your wrong actions would produce negative outcomes, not only for you but your family, community or society at large.

The next time you want to act, ask yourself what the repercussions of your actions would be!
