“I cleaned gutters for N30”—Victor Osimhen recounts humble beginnings

Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, has opened up about his tough childhood and the menial jobs he did to survive before fame and fortune found him through football.
Speaking in a candid interview with media personality Daddy Freeze, the footballer shared emotional memories of growing up in poverty and the gritty hustle that shaped his resilience.
Osimhen revealed that as a young boy, he used to fetch water for residents of a nearby “face-me-I-face-you” apartment for just N80. In addition to that, he cleaned dirty, algae-filled gutters, earning as little as N30 for the backbreaking job.
“There was a building in front of our house, the kind of face-me-I-face-you compound,” he recalled. “I used to fetch water for people upstairs for N80. Most of the time, I’d also clean gutters when those green things (algae) were coming out.”
Osimhen’s story has since resonated with many Nigerians, who see him as a symbol of perseverance and inspiration for youths facing similar economic struggles. His rise from the streets of Lagos to becoming one of the most sought-after strikers in world football remains a powerful testimony of hope against the odds.
