Lagos: Police nab guardian, 4 others for selling 2-week-old baby

Operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended five suspects, including the victim’s guardian, for the abduction and sale of a two-week-old baby boy.
The case originated on May 5, 2025, at Ajah Division, where a report was filed regarding the disappearance of 16-year-old Miss Happiness, who was pregnant. Investigations revealed that due to financial difficulties, Miss Happiness’s mother entrusted her care to Nonye Osi (female) for accommodation until delivery. However, Nonye Osi allegedly conspired with others to move Miss Happiness to an undisclosed location, where she was later found without her baby.
Following the case’s transfer to the SCID, diligent investigation led to the arrest of Nonye Osi, Akintan Adedayo (female), Jimoh Bashiru (male), Elizabeth Bishop (female), and Bukola Oladapo (female). These suspects are accused of conspiring to sell the two-week-old baby boy for Three Million Naira (N3,000,000.00).
Through persistent efforts, detectives successfully located and recovered the stolen infant in Agemuwo, Badagry area. The baby was found safe and is currently under the care of the Gender/Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, who are ensuring his well-being pending reunification with his biological mother.
The Lagos State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, reiterated its unwavering commitment to the safety and security of all residents, as investigations continue to bring all individuals involved in this crime to justice.
