Barcelona president Joan Laporta revealed his plans to renew the contracts of Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Frenkie de Jong and Wojciech Szczesny while speaking to the microphones of ‘La Vanguardia’.

After celebrating their La Liga triumph, which completed a domestic treble, Barcelona are ready to get underway and lock in the future of their key players. President Jaon Laporta disclosed the club’s plans while speaking to the microphones of ‘La Vanguardia’.

The first name the chief discussed was that of Lamine Yamal. The teenage sensation’s contract still has a year until its expiration date in June 2026, but Laporta wants to waste no time in extending the Spaniard’s stay after his sensational campaign with the Catalans.

“Lamine Yamal’s contract renewal has already been agreed upon. Now all that remains is the official signing,” the 62-year-old said. Yamal has had the world of football at his feet this term, scoring 17 goals and providing 21 assists across all competitions at just 17.

Frenkie de Jong is another star Laporta is determined to keep at Catalonia. Having joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019, the Dutchman struggled to make an impact, but Hansi Flick’s arrival last summer has seen him flourish alongside Pedri in midfield.

“We’re working on renewing Frenkie’s contract, and he’s very excited to stay,” Laporta said of the 28-year-old. “We’re absolutely determined to do whatever it takes to ensure he stays.” De Jong’s contract also runs until June 2026.

Former Leeds winger Raphinha has also turned his fortunes around since Flick took over from Xavi at the helm of the club. The Brazilian has been tipped to win the Ballon d’Or after a remarkable season in which he racked up 34 goals and 22 assists across all competitions.

“He has been exceptional,” the Barcelona chief admitted. “His new contract is one of the pending issues that we hope to resolve in the coming days or weeks. With Raphinha’s deal also expiring next year, he added: “We don’t want any player with one year left on contract.”.

Laporta also revealed his intention to renew Wojciech Szczesny’s stay in the Spanish top flight. The Polish keeper was given a season-long contract after being lured out of retirement to replace Marc-Andre ter Stegen in October. “We want Szczesny to stay at Barca,” the president affirmed.

But reports have informed that the former Juventus captain may still be tempted to hang up his gloves for a second time. Laporta said that Barca would be equipped to deal with a possible departure as he said: “We also have good goalkeepers in the reserve team and in the youth team.”

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick was also given a year-long deal when he took charge last summer. However, Laporta has previously revealed that the Germany international will renew for another year, with the official announcement set to arrive in the coming days.
