Niger State Police Command arrested a man identified as Mubarak, suspected to be mentally unstable for stabbing a 25-year-old man, Shamseen Danshehu, to death.
The incident took place on Sunday evening in the Kwangila area of Minna, the state capital when Mubarak was said to have engaged Danshehu in a fisticuffs during which he allegedly stabbed him in the chest.
He was rushed to the nearby Minna General hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
The residents who said they did not know what caused the fight however said they always saw Mubarak in the street moving from place to place scavenging in residents’ refuse containers.
The police spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, Monday confirmed the death of Danshehu.
He also disclosed that the suspect was arrested .
“It was reported that one Mubarak, who is suspected of insanity and also scavenging around Kwangila, had a fight with a passerby, Shamsu Danshehu 25 years of the same area.
“During the fight, the said scavenger stabbed Shamsu on the chest with scissors.
“The victim was rushed to the general hospital but gave up the ghost in the hospital and confirmed dead. The suspect was arrested for further investigation,” Abiodun said.
