Reflections on Abdulazeez Kaka’s standard of politics, by Ibrahim Modibbo Sanusi Maikudi

The Nigerian political landscape has been intensely scrutinized in recent weeks, particularly following the Iftar tour by the son of the President, Mr. Seyi Tinubu (ST), with its gatherings and youth engagement events. While these events have generated considerable debate, and I, like many, have reservations regarding certain youths surrounding ST, my focus extends beyond those immediate concerns.

I remain steadfast in my critique of policies that I believe are detrimental to the interests of Arewa and the broader populace, a stance that ultimately led to my departure from the APC.

My current concern centers on the orchestrated campaign of media black mail and character assassination being waged against Abdulazeez Kaka by certain youths in the north, whose motivations—whether driven by envy or personal animosity—remain obscure. Many of us established genuine friendships with Abdulazeez during his 2021 APC Zonal Youth Leader contest. In the often-contentious arena of politics, such cross-ideological friendships are rare. Yet, from our initial encounters, despite our divergent political affiliations in Kaduna and the North, Kaka has consistently earned the respect of individuals from all political camps.

His defeat in the Zonal Youth Leadership race was not a reflection of his competence, youth support, political acumen, or mobilization prowess. It was solely a consequence of party politics and zoning. Abdulazeez Kaka’s widespread admiration, extending across political lines to PDP and Kwankwasiyya supporters, is no mere coincidence. His reputation is built upon a foundation of humility, dedicated community service, impactful youth empowerment initiatives, and an unwavering calmness. These qualities have justifiably earned him the esteem of many.

Over the past three years, Abdulazeez Kaka has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to women and youth empowerment, directly impacting over 5,000 individuals, regardless of political season or affiliation. Notably, his empowerment initiatives extend beyond mere financial handouts. He imparts valuable, sustainable skills in areas such as cosmetics making, ICT, and poultry farming, a rare and commendable trait in Arewa politics. 1 I recently learned that he spearheaded a comprehensive health outreach program at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), which included a 1 million naira prize for the best nurse. Even before Seyi Tinubu’s recent initiatives, Kaka has consistently utilized his personal resources to positively impact society.

I urge young political figures throughout the north and beyond to emulate Kaka’s exemplary character. It is imperative that we, as young people, increase our contributions to our communities, acknowledge past mistakes. Our focus should be on developing impactful initiatives for Northern youth, particularly in agriculture and ICT, areas vital for sustainable development.
In light of the current national climate, I urge the President’s son to convey to his father that the country faces substantial challenges. This is not a partisan assertion, but a reflection of the prevailing reality. The government’s involvement in interstate political crises, particularly in Rivers, Kaduna, and Kano, raises concerns. Ultimately, Nigerians will assess the President’s performance in 2027 based on the effectiveness of his policies, not solely on Seyi Tinubu’s individual initiatives. The pressing needs of Nigerians are clear: to revitalize the economy, strengthen the Naira, bolster agriculture, and address the pervasive insecurity in the North.

Politics is a marathon, not a sprint; there is always an opportunity for improvement. I encourage the President to view criticism as constructive advice, not as personal attacks.. As we have parted ways politically, I extend my best wishes for your future endeavors. Please continue your impactful work, and strive to do even more.
