Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has released what he claims is email proof of his involvement in Peter Obi’s emergence as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2019 general election.

Omokri, who served under ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, shared the controversial evidence via his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, insisting he played a key behind-the-scenes role in the political pairing.

According to him, the email purportedly sent by Peter Obi on October 8, 2018 was proof that four days before the official announcement, the former Anambra State governor had already engaged him in discussions about the ticket. Obi was formally unveiled as Atiku’s running mate on October 12, 2018.

“Please find attached an email sent to me by Peter Obi at 6:13 PM on Monday, October 8, 2018. Four days after this email was sent, Peter Obi was announced as Waziri Atiku Abubakar’s running mate,” Omokri wrote.

He explained that the release of the email was triggered by growing criticism from supporters of the Labour Party flagbearer popularly known as the Obidients who accused him of fabricating his claims.

“My ONLY motive in publishing this evidence is to establish that I did not lie,” he wrote. “I would not have considered publishing this email if a Peter Obi surrogate had not called me a liar on a popular podcast.”

Omokri, who has never hidden his loyalty to Atiku and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenged Obi to deny the authenticity of the message.

“If this email is fake or AI-generated, then I challenge Mr. Obi to deny it, and I will publish even more damning evidence, although it is not my desire to do so,” he warned.

However, Peter Obi has yet to publicly respond to the allegations as of press time.
