A heated war of words has erupted on social media between former senator Dino Melaye and veteran entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, leaving fans and observers puzzled as to what sparked the conflict.

The exchange began after Charly Boy shared a video of Dino Melaye on his page, accompanied by a cryptic caption that appeared to question the senator’s mental state.

“This shows that even in the midst of luxury/obscene affluence, it is possible to be clinically depressed. Not all forms of mental illness are discernible,” Charly Boy wrote, suggesting that Melaye’s flamboyant lifestyle may be masking deeper emotional struggles.

Dino Melaye did not take the comment lightly. In a sharp response, he shared his own video laced with heavy jabs at the activist.

“Boda agbaya… Charly Boy. Bad son of a good father. Egungun wey dey climb okada. Be careful,” Melaye retorted.

He accused Charly Boy of using him to gain relevance, claiming the entertainer’s “blessings have been put in a freezer” and that he was simply seeking attention. Melaye went further to mock Charly Boy’s living conditions, alleging that his house roof is caving in and he lacks the funds to fix it. He also suggested envy was at the root of the attack, saying, “He’s jealous because of my dressing. He hasn’t seen anything yet—I’m just getting started.”

In a separate and more elaborate post, Melaye dug deeper, accusing Charly Boy of hypocrisy and questioning his moral authority.

“Charly Boy is the head boy of the Prodigal Children Institute, Gwarinpa,” he began, before delivering a scathing critique of the activist’s eccentric persona.

“It’s fascinating how someone who lives in rebellion against moral norms suddenly has the audacity to offer psychological diagnoses. From a man who turned his body into a canvas of chaos and lives on the edge of moral anarchy, such unsolicited commentary reeks of envy, not concern,” Melaye wrote.

He further challenged Charly Boy’s credibility, adding, “When did Charly Boy become the dean of moral instruction? What qualifications does he hold to diagnose depression through fashion? Yellow, my dear sir, signifies vibrance and royalty—not illness.”

As of now, Charly Boy has not issued another response, and the reason behind the initial tension remains unclear. However, netizens are watching closely, as this dramatic online spat between two of Nigeria’s most flamboyant public figures shows no signs of slowing down.
