Tinubu orders crackdown on killings in Benue

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep concern over the renewed violence and bloodshed in Benue State, declaring that the situation must come to an end.
In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the President described the killings as “senseless bloodletting” and directed security agencies to take immediate and decisive action. He emphasized the need to arrest and prosecute all perpetrators—regardless of which side they belong to.
“Enough is enough! I have directed the security agencies to act decisively, arrest perpetrators of these evil acts on all sides of the conflict, and prosecute them,” Tinubu wrote.
The President also called on political and community leaders in the state to exercise restraint and avoid inflammatory statements that could further escalate tensions.
In a direct appeal to Governor Hyacinth Alia, President Tinubu urged him to rise above politics and lead the charge for peace and reconciliation across all affected communities.
“This is the time for Governor Alia to act as a statesman and immediately lead the process of dialogue and reconciliation that will bring peace to Benue,” Tinubu said.
He concluded by stressing that peaceful coexistence is achievable when leaders set aside divisions and work together in fairness and justice.
The President’s intervention comes amid mounting outrage over recent violent attacks in parts of Benue, which have left many dead and several communities displaced. His statement is being seen as a call to action, not only for security forces but for leaders at all levels in the state to urgently address the root causes of the crisis.
