President Bola Tinubu has removed Professor Segun Ajiboye from his position as Registrar and Chief Executive of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), replacing him with Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, a seasoned educationist and former aide to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun.

Ajiboye, who was reappointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2021 for a second five-year term, was due to remain in office until September 2026. However, his tenure has been cut short by the Tinubu administration as part of a shake-up in federal education leadership.

Soyombo’s appointment was formally announced on Thursday during a brief ceremony in Abuja, where the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, presented her with her letter of appointment. Sources confirmed that she officially resumed duties on Monday at the TRCN headquarters.

Until her appointment, Soyombo served as the Senior Special Adviser on Education, Science, and Technology to Governor Dapo Abiodun. She previously held the position of Acting Commissioner for Education in Ogun State, during which she simultaneously oversaw the Teaching Service Commission and the Universal Basic Education Board.

Soyombo brings to the TRCN over 30 years of professional experience in the education sector, spanning both Nigeria and the United Kingdom. She holds a degree in Chemistry Education from the University of Lagos, a law degree from London Guildhall University, and earned a Microsoft certification in 1997.

Her new role will see her lead the federal agency responsible for regulating the teaching profession across Nigeria for a five-year tenure.
