Tinubu writes NASS, seeks ₦1.481 trillion budget proposal

President Bola Tinubu has written to the National Assembly, seeking approval for a ₦1.481 trillion budget proposal for Rivers State.
The request comes after the Supreme Court nullified the state’s 2025 budget and declared the current situation as one requiring emergency governance.
Due to the state of emergency, the Rivers State House of Assembly is not in session, and in line with the amended 1999 Constitution, the National Assembly is expected to take over its legislative duties.
This move allows federal lawmakers to consider and pass the state’s budget.
The proposed budget outlines key spending areas across different sectors. Infrastructure will receive ₦324 billion, health will get ₦166 billion, education is allocated ₦75.6 billion, and agriculture will take ₦31.4 billion.
According to the plan, the agricultural sector is expected to create about 6,000 jobs for the people of Rivers State.
President Tinubu called on the lawmakers to treat the proposal with urgency, noting that the funds will help maintain progress in essential sectors.
With normal legislative processes currently suspended in the state, the federal lawmakers are now responsible for ensuring that governance and development efforts continue without delay.
