The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has reacted to reports of an alleged shooting involving an officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Niger State, clarifying that the personnel was struck by a stray bullet, which was neither fired on the orders of a Chinese company nor by any of its employees.
In a statement signed by Alao Babatunde, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Minister of Interior, authorities confirmed that a full-scale investigation has been launched in collaboration with other security agencies. The probe aims to uncover the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting and ensure that anyone found culpable faces justice.
The Minister reaffirmed his commitment to protecting law enforcement officers, emphasizing their safety, dignity, and professional integrity. He also assured that the government remains supportive of law-abiding businesses operating in Nigeria, stressing the importance of strengthening partnerships with foreign nationals to drive socio-economic development.
The incident has created widespread reactions, with many Nigerians calling for a transparent investigation and justice for the affected officer.
