Yamal teases No.10 shirt at Barcelona with Maradona tribute

One of football’s brightest young talents Lamine Yamal, has teased on Instagram that he will don the iconic No.10 shirt at Barcelona. 

The story he has posted featured a photo of Diego Maradona wearing the legendary number during his time at the club.

A new era is approaching at Barcelona. Lamine Yamal, a footballer setting trends worldwide, gave his Instagram followers a glimpse of what’s to come by sharing a story showing Maradona in his Barcelona days sporting the No.10 shirt — signalling the right winger will take over that number next season.

This simple snapshot has caused quite a stir among the Barcelona faithful. With Ansu Fati reportedly close to joining Monaco, the No 10 shirt is becoming available, and it looks like it has found a new owner. There has been much speculation about whether the young star would make this step, and all signs point to yes.

Yamal will inherit a number once worn by the likes of Leo Messi and Ronaldinho, two of the greatest players in the history of the club. The Spanish international is destined to leave his mark on world football and has decided to take on the responsibility that comes with the No.10 shirt.

Barcelona have everything lined up to officially announce Yamal’s number change. The timing will coincide with the young star’s coming of age — he turns 18 on 13 July — although the club will unveil the 2025/26 kit next Tuesday, 1 July.
