24 lawmakers from Kano reject Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills

Twenty-four federal lawmakers in Kano state have rejected President Bola Tinubu’s proposed Tax Reform Bills, in a unified stance with the State Governor, Abba Yusuf.
The decision was finalized during a state caucus meeting held on Sunday.
The meeting, chaired by Kano State Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo, brought together state representatives to deliberate on the contentious legislation.
The four tax bills sent to the National Assembly include the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, which is expected to provide the fiscal framework for taxation in the country, and the Tax Administration Bill, which will provide a legal framework for all taxes in the country and reduce disputes.
Others are the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, which will repeal the Federal Inland Revenue Service Act and establish the Nigeria Revenue Service; and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill which will create a tax tribunal and a tax ombudsman.
The member representing Kumbotso Federal Constituency, Idris Dankawu, stated, “To clarify this issue, I want to inform the people of Kano State, especially the residents of Kumbotso Federal Constituency, that based on the outcome of our meeting, we are against the proposed tax reform bills. We have agreed to work collectively to ensure that the bill is withdrawn in the overall interest of the good people of Kano State.
“Let me reassure the good people of Kumbotso Federal Constituency that your views, opinions and yearnings will continue to receive my utmost attention and care.”
