Alia hits Ortom over N359 billion salary backlog

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has revealed that his administration inherited a significant salary arrears of over N359 billion from previous years under his predecessor’s leadership.
The governor made this disclosure during a tour of the Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency in Okpoga, the headquarters of Okpokwu Local Government Area.
Alia accused past administrations of deceiving the public and claimed that the Federal Government withheld funds, leading to the inability to pay salaries. He assured that his government would prioritize timely payment of civil servants’ salaries, promising that payments would commence from the 22nd of every month.
Expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him to govern the state, Alia pledged to revitalize the Igumale Cement factory and improve infrastructure by constructing access roads. He also promised to enhance electricity supply in Okpoga with a capacity of 5,000 kilowatts to alleviate the community’s challenges.
Additionally, Alia urged continued support for his administration and urged patience with President Bola Tinubu, highlighting positive policies for Nigerians under his leadership.
During the event, former APC Senatorial candidate Daniel Onjeh urged the governor to translate promises into actions, emphasizing the need to fulfill campaign commitments to the populace. He cautioned against distractions from opposition parties and encouraged a focus on delivering tangible developments to the people.
Benjamin Omakolon, the APC Acting Chairman, welcomed 500 defectors from opposition parties into the APC, assuring them of fair treatment and inclusivity within the party.
