Borno names head of Great Green Wall Agency

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has announced the appointment of Mr. Usman Aliyu as the Director-General of the Agency for the Great Green Wall.
The appointment of Mr. Usman Aliyu as Director-General of the Agency for the Great Green Wall was made public through a statement released on Monday by Abdurrahman Bundi, Senior Special Assistant to Governor on New Media.
The Great Green Wall (GGW) is a flagship initiative of the African Union aimed at mitigating desertification and halting the encroachment of the Sahara Desert in the Sahel region.
Zulum said he expects the highest level of commitment and dedication in Aliyu’s new role.
NAN reports that Aliyu graduated from the University of Maiduguri with a BSc in Geology in 2007 and later earned a master’s degree in Environmental Management in 2015.
Aliyu, who hails from Hawul Local Government of Borno, is currently pursuing a PhD in Environmental Management at the same university.
Aliyu brings a diverse range of experience to his new role, having held various positions across both the private and public sectors throughout his career.
Aliyu’s professional background includes stints as a coordinator at the former Federal Ministry of Mineral Resources and Geological Survey in Kano, as well as roles with prominent organizations such as Borno State Green Hub Africa and the Kano State Ministry of Environment, showcasing his extensive experience in the field.
