Breaking: Bauchi Emirate revokes Senator’s traditional title for criticizing governor Bala

The Bauchi Emirate Council has stripped Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South in the National Assembly, of his traditional title following allegations of insulting and criticizing State Governor Senator Bala Mohammed.
Buba, of the All Progressive Congress (APC), held the title of ‘Mandarin Bauchi’. Last week, he accused Governor Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of misappropriating palliative items provided by the APC-led federal government. The Senator claimed that essential supplies, such as rice, corn, and fertilizer, intended to help alleviate economic hardship in the state, were sold by the state government rather than distributed to those in need.
In a letter dated August 14, 2024, and signed by Nasiru Musa on behalf of the Emirate Council’s secretary, the Council explained that the decision to revoke the title was made after a council meeting on Wednesday. The council concluded that Senator Umar’s actions were inconsistent with the values and traditions of the Bauchi Emirate.
