Canadian authorities investigate Nigerian woman for hate speech, threats

A Nigerian woman, Amaka Sunnberger, based in Canada, is under investigation for threatening to poison Nigerians of Yoruba and Benin extractions.
The Toronto Police Service has confirmed that the incident is being probed, following a petition by the House of Representatives and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.
Sunnberger’s threatening video went viral on social media, where she boasted about living in Ontario, Canada, and threatened to poison the food and water of Nigerians. She expressed hatred towards the Yoruba and Benin people, stating that she would start killing them by putting poison in their food and water.
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission and the House of Representatives have petitioned the Canadian authorities, demanding an investigation and prosecution of Sunnberger. The House of Representatives, in a letter to the Canadian government, described Sunnberger’s statements as a direct threat to Nigerians and requested an immediate and thorough investigation.
Sunnberger, however, has dismissed the calls for her arrest, claiming that she holds a Canadian passport and cannot be deported. She has also continued to express her hatred towards the Yoruba and Benin people, sparking widespread outrage and concern.
The investigation is ongoing, and Canadian authorities have been urged to take swift action to address the threats and hate speech made by Sunnberger.
