Edo poll: Police foil electoral violence plot, arrest 2 political thugs

In a pre-emptive strike against electoral violence, the Nigeria Police Force has arrested two political thugs and recovered firearms in overnight raids across Edo State.
The arrests come just hours before the highly anticipated governorship election.
According to Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the suspects – Edwin Obanor, 43, and Audu Tajudeen, 41, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – were apprehended following a tip-off about plans to disrupt the election.
Obanor, a leader of an armed group, was arrested at Oredo Ward 4 around 9 p.m., while Tajudeen was taken into custody in Igara Akoko. Police found three locally fabricated pistols in Obanor’s possession and a locally made gun with Tajudeen.

The arrests shows the police’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful election. ACP Adejobi emphasized that the authorities will deal decisively with illegal arms bearers and troublemakers.
The suspects are currently in custody and will face legal action. The police have urged the public to report any suspicious activities to local police stations or through designated helplines.
This proactive move by the police is a reassuring step towards ensuring the integrity of the electoral process in Edo State. With tensions running high ahead of the election, the police’s swift action serves as a deterrent to potential troublemakers.
As voters head to the polls today, the police’s presence and vigilance will be crucial in maintaining order and preventing electoral violence. The people of Edo State can rest assured that the authorities are taking concrete steps to protect their right to a peaceful and fair election.
