Shippers calls for maritime structural review


The Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association new leadership has been charged by the African Shipowners to lead the needed structural adjustments in the country’s shipping industry.
According to Funmi Folorunso, the Secretary General of ASA, said this during the recent swearing-in ceremony of the Dr Odunayo Ani-led executive of WISTA.
Folorunso, who also is the pioneer president of WISTA, encouraged the new executives to explore the strengths and portfolios of WISTA members.
“We have a pool of influential personalities in WISTA; we need to take advantage of our strength,” Folorunso remarked.
WISTA is an international networking organisation whose mission is to attract and support women at the management level in the maritime sector.
In her acceptance speech, Odunayo pledged to advance the mission and vision of the association in an environment where every member would feel valued and empowered to contribute.
She beckoned on members of WISTA Nigeria to continuously lend their hands of support and rich expertise to the current leadership.
The new president informed the gathering of the executive’s plan to meet with WISTA Diamonds to present the major goals of the association for refinement and counsel.
Odunayo stated that she was targeting the robust contribution of WISTA Nigeria to national, continental, and global issues under her leadership.
“Your engagement, support, and belief in the future of our association have been the cornerstone of our collective success. It is your dedication that fuels the spirit of innovation and progress within our community.
“We must navigate the complexities of a rapidly evolving landscape, championing inclusivity, diversity, and excellence every step of the way.
According to Odunayo’s opinion, said the exco’s strength lies in the members’ collective wisdom.
she pledged, “I am dedicated to ensuring that every voice is not only heard but also respected. Together, we will harness the power of collaboration to drive meaningful change and propel our association to new heights of success,”.
