Man arrested for allegedly killing wife over dispute

A 30-year-old man, Moturayo Olaniyi, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly killing his wife, Olajumoke Olaniyi, 25, during a domestic dispute at their residence in Ikorodu.

The tragic incident occurred on October 4, 2024, at approximately 1 p.m. at Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe, Ikorodu.

Lagos State Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest and provided details of the shocking event. According to him, the Ikorodu Police Division received a distress call reporting a violent altercation between the newlywed couple inside their apartment.

During the altercation, Moturayo allegedly stabbed his wife fatally in the abdomen before locking her inside the room and setting it on fire. He then reportedly inflicted injuries on himself.

Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives rushed to the scene and extinguished the fire. They discovered Olajumoke’s lifeless body on the floor, bearing a fatal wound to her abdomen. Moturayo, who sustained minor injuries, was rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment before being taken into police custody.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect stabbed his wife during a quarrel and later inflicted a mild injury on himself,” SP Hundeyin stated.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Ikorodu General Hospital mortuary for an autopsy. Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to uncover the full details behind the tragedy.
