Ododo approves new minimum wage for civil servants, announces tax relief

In a new move to improve the welfare of workers, Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has announced that all civil servants and local government employees in the state will now receive a minimum wage of N72,500.

The announcement was made on Monday during the presentation of the State Minimum Wage Committee’s report at the banquet hall of the Government House in Lokoja.

Governor Ododo confirmed that the new wage structure, which includes consequential adjustments for all categories of workers, is part of his administration’s commitment to fulfilling campaign promises and enhancing the livelihoods of Kogi State employees.

“We have reviewed all relevant factors and, after thorough discussions and agreements, I have approved N72,500 as the minimum wage for all workers,” Governor Ododo stated.

In addition to the wage increase, the governor also declared a one-year tax relief for all civil servants in the state, a decision that was met with resounding applause from the audience. This measure, aimed at easing the financial burden on workers, further underscores the government’s commitment to supporting its workforce during these challenging times.

The new minimum wage and tax relief are seen as landmark steps in improving the welfare of Kogi State’s workforce, positioning the state as one of the leaders in worker compensation in Nigeria.
