Breaking: Fubara approves N85,000 minimum wage for civil servants

The Rivers State Government has officially approved a new minimum wage of N85,000 for civil servants, signaling a significant boost in the welfare of the state’s workforce.

The Head of Service, George Nwaeke, made the announcement after a closed-door meeting between Governor Siminalayi Fubara, labour leaders, and senior government officials. According to Nwaeke, Governor Fubara granted approval for the new wage structure during the discussions, with immediate implementation across the state.

In response to the development, Chukwu Emecheta, Chairman of the Joint Negotiation Team, praised the Governor for fulfilling the long-standing expectations of Rivers State workers. He expressed deep appreciation for the Governor’s proactive stance on improving the welfare of civil servants.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Rivers State, Alex Agwanwor, lauded the new minimum wage as a major relief for workers grappling with the rising cost of living. He emphasized that the pay raise would significantly ease the economic pressures on civil servants, marking a positive shift for the workforce.

The approval of the N85,000 minimum wage positions Rivers State as one of the few states taking bold steps to enhance the welfare of its public sector employees, in line with the evolving demands of the national economy.
