Hisbah declares suspended commissioner wanted over alleged affair with married woman

The Kano State Hisbah Board has declared Auwal Sankara, the suspended Commissioner for Special Duties in Jigawa State, wanted over an alleged illicit affair with a married woman.

This development was announced by Hisbah Commander-General, Aminu Daurawa, on Monday, October 21, 2024. Sankara, who was arrested last week after being caught in an uncompleted building with the woman, failed to respond to an invitation for a reconciliation meeting.

Following Sankara’s arrest, the Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, suspended him to ensure an impartial investigation into the allegations.

Speaking to journalists in Kano, Daurawa explained that Sankara had been granted bail on the condition that he would appear before the Hisbah command whenever required. However, his failure to attend the scheduled reconciliation session on Monday led to Hisbah declaring him wanted.

“The reason we invited him was for reconciliation,” Daurawa explained. “The complainant agreed to reconcile with Sankara due to the fact that he has two children with the woman. We accepted this and extended an invitation for reconciliation, but Sankara failed to show up.”

Daurawa added that reconciliation would have resolved the matter without further escalation. “Islam encourages reconciliation, and that was our goal. However, since Sankara has shown no interest, we will proceed with legal action.”

Sankara, on his part, has denied the allegations, calling them “false, malicious, and baseless.” He vowed to pursue legal action against those he says are trying to tarnish his reputation.

As the case unfolds, Sankara’s no-show at the Hisbah meeting has escalated tensions, with the potential for a legal battle if reconciliation efforts are no longer an option.
