Ademola Lookman strengthens bid for CAF player of the year

Nigerian Super Eagles star, Ademola Lookman delivered a standout performance on Saturday night, solidifying his case for the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.
The Nigerian international was in electrifying form, scoring twice and providing two assists in Atalanta’s 6-1 demolition of Hellas Verona in a Serie A clash.
Lookman wasted no time making an impact, assisting Marten de Roon to open the scoring just six minutes into the match.
The 27-year-old continued his playmaking prowess by setting up Charles De Ketelaere for Atalanta’s third goal in the 14th minute, showcasing his vision and creativity.
The winger then turned from provider to scorer, netting twice within a five-minute span. Lookman struck Atalanta’s fourth goal in the 29th minute before adding a fifth in the 34th minute, cementing his dominance on the pitch. His clinical display shows his attacking threat and ability to influence games.
Lookman’s night ended in the 56th minute when he was substituted for Lazar Samardzic, having already left an indelible mark on the game.
His performance not only helped propel Atalanta to a resounding victory but also reinforced his position as a frontrunner for the CAF Men’s Player of the Year award. Lookman’s consistency in front of goal and his all-around contributions could play a pivotal role in securing the prestigious honor later this year.
