What Kamala Harris says in first post-election speech

U.S. Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris has formally conceded the presidential election to Donald Trump, promising a peaceful transfer of power while urging her supporters to remain steadfast in championing their values.
Speaking at her alma mater, Howard University, in Washington, Harris extended congratulations to President-elect Trump and pledged her administration’s full cooperation in the transition.
“We must accept the results of this election,” Harris told the crowd. “Earlier today, I spoke with President-elect Trump and congratulated him on his victory. I also told him that we will help him and his team with their transition and that we will engage in a peaceful transfer of power.”
Without directly referencing Trump’s previous refusal to accept his 2020 defeat, Harris emphasized the importance of respecting electoral outcomes, calling it a fundamental trait that “distinguishes democracy from monarchy or tyranny.” She added, “Those who seek the public’s trust must honor it. Our loyalty is not to a president or a party but to the U.S. Constitution, our conscience, and our faith.”
Addressing her supporters, Harris acknowledged the disappointment many felt after Trump’s decisive win but urged them to persist in advocating for their ideals. “This outcome is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for,” she said. “But hear me when I say that the light of America’s promise will always burn bright as long as we never give up and keep fighting.”
As she closed, Harris offered a message of hope, encouraging Americans to keep their faith in the nation’s resilience. “I know many feel we’re entering a dark time. But for all of us, I hope that’s not the case. And if it is, let us light up the sky with optimism, faith, truth, and service.”
With this speech, Harris emphasized her commitment to unity and democracy, leaving a message of resilience and encouragement to her supporters as the country prepares for Trump’s transition back to the presidency.
