VIDEO: Wike distances self from judges’ welfare projects, car gifts

The minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has clarified that the recent welfare projects and car gifts for judges are initiatives from the federal executive council under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, not his personal decision.
Addressing public concerns, Wike emphasized that the initiatives reflect the president’s policy directions and that his role, as FCT Minister, is to implement these directives.
“I want to say clearly, the idea is not mine, it has nothing to do with me,” Wike stated. “I am not the president of Nigeria; it is the federal executive council, presided over by Mr. President, and I have to implement Mr. President’s policies.”

The projects, which include car allocations for judges, have sparked debate, with some questioning the priority of such expenditures. Wike’s remarks aim to redirect the conversation by highlighting that the policy originates from the highest level of government, underscoring President Tinubu’s commitment to judicial welfare and independence.
This clarification comes amid ongoing discussions about government spending priorities, as many Nigerians continue to feel the economic impact of recent policies, including subsidy removals.
