Akeredolu’s wife joins criticism of Governor Okpebholo

The fallout from Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo’s struggle to present budget figures during his 2025 appropriation bill continues to spark reactions across the political landscape.
Former Ondo First Lady Betty Akeredolu added her voice to the growing criticisms, sharing Okpebholo’s viral video on X (formerly Twitter) with the sharp remark: “Edo state has entered ONE CHANCE. ♀️”

Activist Aisha Yesufu, a prominent Labour Party supporter, backed Akeredolu’s sentiment. Sharing the same video of Okpebholo’s blunder, Yesufu wrote: “Edo State didn’t enter one chance. They bought the market by their hands. They said it was the turn of Esan man. Many sold their votes. Those whose votes could not be bought refused to go and vote. Edo don carry last.”

While the video has drawn widespread mockery and questions about the governor’s competence, APC Chairman in Edo State, Jeret Tenebe, rose to Okpebholo’s defense. In a statement, Tenebe justified the governor’s difficulty with figures, explaining it as a reflection of his honest governance. According to him:
“Governor Okpebholo is not used to figures because he is not a thief. Unlike others who are skilled in manipulating billions, he is a man of integrity. Let’s focus on his achievements instead of a trivial moment.”
The controversy underline the polarization within and outside the ruling party, as critics and supporters weigh in on Okpebholo’s performance. While Akeredolu’s remarks have added fuel to the fire, Tenebe’s defense underscores the APC’s attempt to shield its governor from further ridicule.
As the debate rages on, many Edo citizens have taken to social media to express mixed feelings, with some questioning the electorate’s choices during the last election.
