Peter Obi opens up on merger collaboration with PDP, NNPP

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has dismissed rumors of a merger or collaboration with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), or any other political group.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, the former governor of Anambra State reaffirmed his commitment to an independent political course, urging Nigerians seeking change to come together and challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming elections.
Obi criticized the APC-led administration under President Bola Tinubu, highlighting increased insecurity, rampant corruption, and soaring public debt as hallmarks of its governance. He decried the misuse of public resources, particularly in the form of excessive international trips by government officials throughout 2024, which he described as wasteful and unjustifiable.
“The security situation in Nigeria is deteriorating daily,” Obi stated, citing alarming cases of banditry, terrorism, and kidnappings that continue to claim innocent lives. He stressed the need for decisive action to address the plight of ordinary Nigerians.
Calling for unity among citizens, Obi emphasized the importance of building a coalition of Nigerians dedicated to restoring good governance and accountability, while reiterating his focus on creating a prosperous and secure future for the country.
