After assaulting 3-year-old pupil, school suspends teacher indefinitely

Christ Mitots School in Ikorodu, Lagos, has suspended Stella Nwadigo, a teacher caught on viral video assaulting a three-year-old pupil, Abayomi Michael, during a numeracy lesson.
The indefinite suspension follows widespread outrage over the incident.
The video, which surfaced on social media, shows the teacher slapping the young child repeatedly for struggling with the lesson. Public condemnation of the act led to Nwadigo’s arrest on Wednesday.
In response, the school issued a statement describing the teacher’s actions as unacceptable and completely at odds with their principles.
“The video circulating on social media reveals conduct that is entirely unacceptable and inconsistent with our school’s values,” the statement read. “We are committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment for our students, and such behavior will not be tolerated.”
The management confirmed that the teacher has been suspended indefinitely, pending the outcome of an investigation.
“We have taken immediate action by suspending the teacher involved while a thorough investigation is conducted. This reflects our zero-tolerance approach to any form of misconduct, especially actions that compromise the safety and well-being of our students.”
The school also apologized to the victim’s family, assuring them of their full support during this period.
“To the family of the affected pupil, we extend our sincerest apologies and have reached out to ensure their concerns are addressed,” the statement added.
The school announced additional measures to prevent similar incidents, including mandatory training sessions for teachers on positive disciplinary methods and child protection protocols. A confidential whistle-blowing system has also been introduced to encourage the prompt reporting of inappropriate behavior.
The management emphasized its commitment to fostering a culture of respect and care, pledging to make the necessary changes to uphold these values.
