Azuta-Mbata gets 7-day ultimatum to resign as Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s President

The newly-elected President-General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, John Azuta-Mbata has received a seven-day ultimatum to resign his position.
Azuta-Mbata received this ultimatum from a group, the Rivers State Restoration Movement (RRM) on Tuesday, January 13.
The group’s ultimatum come barely 72 hours after the Ikwere-born former lawmaker was elected president-general of the Igbo socio-political organisation.
A statement by RRM’s director-general and secretary, Johnson Georgewill Sarina Akpata said the election of the new President-general of Ohanaeze is disturbing and disgraceful.
According to the group, its members would be staging the largest protest in Rivers State, Abuja and all United Nations facilities against Azuta-Mbata victory at the elections.
The group also alleged that the Rivers State governor, Siminialayi Fubara has been perpetrating injustice against the people through Azuta-Mbata’s election as Ohanaeze’s PG.
“One begins to wonder what wrong Rivers people have done to deserve this humiliation from Governor Siminialayi Fubara’s administration.
“Was it a crime that in the interest of equity, fairness, and justice, former Governor Nyesom Wike and leader of Rivers State politics, on the premise of the political bond and love that spans over 50 years between the Ijaw and Ikwerre, chose Fubara as governor to represent the riverine interest?” the group queried.
