What Tinubu discussed with Wike, Fubara during high-level meeting

President Bola Tinubu has urged the people of Ogoniland to embrace reconciliation and unity as he reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering peace, justice, and sustainable development in the region.
Tinubu made the call on Tuesday during a crucial meeting at the State House with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, former Governor Nyesom Wike, and other Ogoni leaders. The discussions centered on addressing long-standing grievances and creating a path forward for environmental restoration and socio-economic progress.
“We cannot rewrite history, but we can correct the anomalies of the past,” Tinubu stated, emphasizing the need for healing. “We cannot heal the wounds if we continue to be angry. We must build mutual trust, return home, consult broadly, and embrace one another. This trip must be worthwhile by bringing peace, development, and a clean environment back to Ogoniland.”
In a show of commitment to the cause, Tinubu tasked National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu with leading further negotiations, ensuring inclusiveness and collaboration among all stakeholders. The President highlighted trust, cooperation, and comprehensive engagement as key elements for resolving challenges and securing lasting progress in the region.
Reflecting on his historic ties with Ogoni activists, Tinubu recalled, “Many of your sons were my comrades in the struggle against military dictatorship. We walked the streets of Nigeria, Europe, and America together. I am committed to honouring the memory of our fallen heroes to ensure their sacrifices were not in vain.”
Governor Fubara expressed gratitude to Tinubu for his support and underscored the importance of resuming oil production in Ogoniland. He affirmed the delegation’s readiness to act on the President’s directives and work with relevant parties to drive peace and economic revitalization.
Ribadu lauded the Ogoni leaders for choosing dialogue and pledged full cooperation in the pursuit of peace and environmental sustainability. He expressed optimism that their willingness to engage constructively would yield transformative outcomes for the region.
The meeting marks a pivotal step in advancing reconciliation and development in Ogoniland, as stakeholders commit to collaborative efforts for a brighter, more harmonious future.
