The ongoing leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a violent turn on Wednesday as supporters of two rival National Secretaries, Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Mr. Ude-Okoye, clashed at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
The tension erupted shortly after PDP’s acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, and the Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, delivered their speeches during the 79th BoT meeting.
Anyanwu and Okoye are currently locked in a legal battle over who holds the legitimate position of PDP National Secretary. The matter is before the Supreme Court, with a stay of execution order in place to prevent any further action until a final ruling is given.
Eyewitnesses say the chaos began when an individual identified as Emma, a loyalist of Anyanwu, approached Okoye and asked him to vacate his seat. The confrontation escalated when Emma allegedly slapped Okoye, prompting him to leave and mobilize his supporters.
Within moments, about ten of Okoye’s loyalists, who had been stationed outside the party secretariat, jumped the fence and launched a physical altercation against Anyanwu’s camp. The fight disrupted the meeting as party officials scrambled for safety while security personnel stepped in to restore order.

Despite the intervention of the police, Okoye was still denied entry into the meeting hall, with his aggrieved supporters lingering around the premises in protest.
As of the time of filing this report, the BoT meeting was still ongoing, while tensions remained high within the opposition party.
